FILAMENT / FIELD NOTES
Weigh partial spools without guessing
Separate packaging from printable material.
Measure the matching empty spool
Gross weight includes the spool and remaining filament. Net filament is gross minus empty-spool tare. Use a matching measured empty spool; different constructions need not weigh the same. Remove accessories consistently. Gross below tare indicates an input or measurement problem.
Make the reading reproducible
Use a scale suited to the quantity, follow its instructions, zero it and repeat the reading. Record units and identify each physical spool. An uncertain tare produces an uncertain result. Do not substitute a universal brand average.
Keep each spool separate
Enter net grams or gross and tare in the planner. Two compatible partial spools still need two rows. Combining their weights would imply a change during a job.
Source and limits
Prusa’s costing guide explains weight as an input. The subtraction is original arithmetic, not a brand tare dataset. This site supplies no measured product weights.
